America's only festival devoted to the performance of audio works projected in three-dimensional space, The San Francisco Tape Music Festival features three distinct evenings of classic audio art and new fixed media compositions by 20 local and international composers. Hear members of the SF Tape Music Collective, along with guest composers, shape the sound live over a pristine surround system consisting of 16+ high-end loudspeakers while the audience is seated in complete darkness. It's a unique opportunity to experience music forming - literally - around you.

This year features a special evening devoted to the works of Bernard Parmegiani. A former student of Pierre Schaeffer, Parmegiani (b. 1927, Paris, France) is one of the most well known and influential composers of acousmatic tape music. For the festival's Sunday concert, we will present a retrospective of his works spanning the years 1967 to 2004. The concert concludes with his magnum opus, De Natura Sonorum.

The two other concerts feature a diverse range of music for which the festival is known: classics by Luciano Berio and Hugh Le Caine; a piece by Japanese sound artist Ryoji Ikeda; and modern acousmatic works by international composers Jullian Hoff, Monique Jean, Panayiotis Kokoras, Raúl Minsburg, Sam Salem, Chris Tarren and Chester Udell.

We also remember the work of British composer Jonathan Harvey, who passed away last month.

Local composers Pamela Z, Andrea Williams, Spencer Owen, Matt Ingalls, Thom Blum and Joseph Anderson will also be presenting their works.

Finally, we insert one last piece into our year-long celebration of John Cage's centennial with a new realization of Williams Mix by Tom Erbe with sounds contributed by Cooper Baker, Bobby Bray, Clay Chaplin, Kent Clelland, Greg Davis, Greg Dixon, Tom Djll, Sam Dunscombe, Tom Erbe, Jeff Kaiser, Scot Gresham Lancaster, J Lesser, Elainie Lillios, Carl Stone, Stephan Mathieu, Rick Nance, Maggi Payne, Michael Trigilio and Doug Van Nort.
